Sublingual vaccination and delivery systems

چکیده

Most infectious agents use mucosal tissues as entry portals, thus, mucosae are frequently defined a first line of defense against pathogens. Mucosal protection generally operates through antibody-mediated and cytotoxic T-cell responses which can be triggered by vaccines. Sublingual vaccination provides many advantages such systemic (both locally at remote sites), besides being needle-free administration route with high patient compliance limited adverse effects. Buccal mucosa complexity nonetheless represents challenge for vaccine administration, hence, efforts were recently deployed to improve components, mucoadhesion and/or penetration. Several innovative approaches indeed confirmed that robust protective immunity achieved sublingual This review will then specify the most recent delivery systems improvements developed increase vaccines efficiency. We focus our description on immune mechanisms involved requirements optimal immunization protection.
